Google Rebrands Android Market As Google Play. Say What?

  • Google made an interesting move ditching the name “Android Market” and rebranding it as Google Play.  Google Play is exactly the same as the Android Market, just new name, logo, etc.  I am at a loss to the reason for the change.  My only guess is they wanted to separate their services from the Android brand?  Android 2.2+ devices are supposed to receive an updated Google Play Store in the next few days.

What’s cool is, to celebrate Google Play’s launch, they are offering a different album, book, video rental and Android app at a special price each day for the next week for what they are calling their “7 Days to Play” sale.
