Ubuntu Developers Testing New Layout For Unity ‘Home Lens’

  • Is Ubuntu 12.04 going to be getting a new ‘Home Lens’ for Unity.  Will we finally be getting rid of the 8 gigantic icons?

Ubuntu developers are testing a new layout for the Unity ‘Home Lens’.  Instead of the gigantic icons, the Ubuntu 12.04 Dash may instead show an overview of recent user activity in a heading of “Recent Apps”, “Recent Files”, and ‘Downloads’.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t like that UI either.  My vote would be to have all the applications arranged in alphabetical order in the ‘Home Lens’, similar to Gnome Shell’s activities menu.  Then they can have “Recent Apps”, “Recent Files”, and ‘Downloads’ in separate lenses.  What do you think?  How would you like it to be?

I like the Unity lenses but I think the home lens should be customizable. So it would fit all uses. This is Linux after all
